Welcome!

Welcome to the Australian pilot of I’m a Scientist! We can’t wait to get started next week with:-

  • 3 zones
  • 15 scientists (five scientists in each zone) from WA, SA, Qld, NSW and Vic
  • 1,500 students
  • in 34 schools and colleges from WA, NT, SA, Qld, NSW and Vic

James, Kristin and Sarah from Bridge8 will be guiding you all the madness from Tuesday 14th June.

Who’s taking part in June?
We have now chosen the scientists and schools for I’m a Scientist, Get me out of Here! in June.

Zones
Our pilot has 3 zones, one general called ‘Hydrogen’ and two themed zones, one on ‘Health’ and one funded by the Department of Further Education, Employment, Science and Technology (SA) on ‘Food’. Our pilot funder is the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research (Aus) who also provide resources for schools on enabling technologies through TechNyou.

Schools
There’s a big variety in the schools taking part, with students involved from public and private schools in Western Australia, Northern Territory, South Australia, Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.

Scientists
Competition for scientists was tough, and choosing the final scientists to take part was hard. We had to turn down lot of scientists working on fascinating research. Scientists were chosen by us to ensure we had a good fit within the themed zones and an interesting mix of scientists geographically, by organisation and by area of interest.

The event
Excitement is really building up. Twitter is a great way to follow how the event is going, and with half of our scientists on twitter, online camaraderie has developed already. So get on board and follow us at @iausaus and keep an eye on tweets marked #IASAus.

Be sure to check out the website (live from Monday 6th June) and you can find out more about the scientists taking part. We hope the students, teachers and scientists are looking forward to the event as much as we are.
